Sad

I guy I worked with at Daxor in Knoxville died in a car accident this morning. It was really sad. He got hit on the way to work on Pellissippi Parkway. When things like that happen to someone I know, someone I spent so much time with, it seems VERY real. Jill was in a serious car accident with a drunk driver a month or so ago, and she was really lucky she was not badly hurt. That would have destroyed me.

Sonny was a cantankerous, argumentative, and generally depressed man. But he had some great life experiences, and he told some GREAT stories. He would tell of his years protecting the president, planning and carrying out secret and dangerous military operations, stories of his dogs, stories of his garden, and his time in exotic places. He was always entertaining, even when he was being a complete turd, and he would always share his chocolate. I hadn’t seen him in almost a year, but he was one of those people I would think about from time to time.

Whenever things like this happen to people I know it makes me think about stuff, you know… the people I love, life, the universe. It sort of resets everything for me. I stop thinking about the little crap, and refocus on the important things.

Lesson #1: love and appreciate now, don’t regret the bad, but relish the good.

Lesson #2: buy cars with side airbags, antilock brakes, stability control, and rigid passenger compartments, and check out the NHTSA crash test ratings before buying a car.

Because I love you!
