At Harvey's

Tif hard at work

PS... that's little Alex on my computer screen saver!

The most comfortable hotel bed ever

The Delta Meadowvale in Mississagua actually had a feather bed. It was awesome!

Mississagua Ontario

Well yesterday we landed safely after a very long day of travel. All in all it was 14 hours door to door. Our contact at the hospital here recommended a really nice hotel (hotel and resort) a few miles from the hospital. As per usual Tif and I explored the place as soon as we got in and threw our stuff in our room.

We had an eventful day doing interviews at the hospital. We met some nice people. After a long exhausting day we we headed out to our car and proceeded to pay for parking. Well... tried. We are smart girls, but... but we didn't have any canadian money on us, except Tif had about $10 in coins left in a zip lock baggie (that had a hole in it by the way). We thought the 1/2 hourly rate was much lower than it was, so when we got up to the gate to pay we did not have enough money. We held up the line and dug around for awhile. Finally we scrounged up all but 5 cents of it. We told him it was all we had, so he let us go. Hummmm. We hit the ATM at the hotel when we got back.

Tif was born in Toronto so she knows about some weird little things here. We ate at one of her favorite childhood restaurants - Harvey's. It is kinda like a slightly upscale Hardee's/Carl's Jr. They had quite possibly the best veggie burger I have even gotten in a restaurant.

Spam Sushi

Okay... most of you know I have a pretty sensitive gag reflex, and this one really walked that line. No! I did not eat one, nor did I hurl on the counter, but Spam is not something you forget easily. I think the last time I ate spam was in 1985. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Dr Tif at your service

We gave the Subaru a Workout

Tif had filled her buggy at Ikea. I however bought a giraffe and a bunny for Sherman.

Ikea Crazy

Tif and I went to the new Ikea in Portland. We saved ourselves and went 3 days after they opened. It was big doin's around here. The traffic jammed everything up, they advised people to leave for the airport early (the store is next door to the airport), and they hired cops to direct traffic. People even camped out for days before so they could be there when the doors opened. We thought we could wait. I have to say though we were very excited... there was lots of squeeling in the car on the way there!

Kayaking Fools!

Last night Tif, Sharon, Jim, and I went for a full moon kayak tour. We paddled around the Ross Island on the Willamette River. It took 3 hours. It was the first time any of the four of us had done it. We didn't get to see the moon until we were done and back on the dock because it ended up being a bit overcast. That also meant it was a bit dark. The city lights looked INCREDIBLE from the river, and it was a really cool perspective of the bridges and downtown. We all agreed we'd like to do one of the 6pm tours that they do because it was really fun. Today Jim and I were pretty sore. I got a waterproof shell for my camera, but I ended up not bringing the camera along. It was too dark to get any photos. Next time though!

This is for a salon in St Johns. The bunny is kinda scary though.

Tif's finger is for scale.

Canada Bound

Well Tif and I knew we were going back to NY in a week, but we just found out we are going to Toronto Monday. We will be doing some interviews at a hospital in Mississagua Ontario. We will be flying into Toronto abd be there for 4 days, then we are driving to Skaneateles for meetings Friday. Friday night we are driving back to Toronto for the weekend. Two reasons... 1) its more fun than Skaneateles and 2) the weekend hotel rates in Skaneateles are outrageous on the weekends. Sunday night we are driving back to Skaneateles and stating until Friday morning. Then we are driving BACK to Toronto to fly out Friday afternoon. Got all that? Yeah its hard for me to keep track of too.

Another Lovely Week in NY

This week Tif and I went to NY for work again. The weather was pretty nice, but it is high season there right now. Skaneateles is a big tourist spot, so we don't get to stay in our usual hotels when we go in the summer. The hotels in town are cute little old houses or B&B type places (you've seen pictures of them in the past), and most of them are owned by the same family... as are a handful of the restaurants. We stayed somewhere new this time, and these people were really nice, so we will probably stay there again. We had jacuzzis in our rooms which was awesome!

Looks cool, eh?

This is the fruit basket the California gang sent to me.

My first thundersrom in Portland

There are almost never thunderstorms in Portland. They have them in the Cascades, but not here. Its weird how we took them for granted when we lived back east. So now when we see one its a treat. I saw lightning and thought it was something else, but then I heard the thunder. I went and woke Jim up, and we both went out and stood in the middle of the backyard in our pajamas. It wasn't raining at our house yet, but we could see the storm.
